Orthodontists are qualified dentists who must have two to three-years of full time post-doctoral education at an accredited university, supervised by orthodontists, following dental school (they study biomedical sciences, behavioral and basic sciences, oral biology, and biomechanics). Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics deals with tooth movement, tooth eruption (orthodontics) and guidance of facial growth and development dentofacial orthopedics). Orthodontists are the only experts in the field of dentistry trained to monitor the straightening of teeth, the right teeth and jaw alignment, and facial balance.
Orthodontists diagnose, prevent, monitor teeth eruption, and treat dental and facial irregularities. Orthodontists limit their practices to orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics. That means that orthodontic treatment is what we do, and that is all we do. Orthodontists treat a wide variety of malocclusions (mis-arranged aligned teeth and/or jaws). He treat patients of all ages ranging from new born (cleft palate) to young children, teens and adults.
